Searching the Deming Court Docket
Deming splits its court records across two paths. City ordinance violations belong with Deming Municipal Court first. So do petty misdemeanors, traffic tickets, DWI/DUI, animal-control, and code-enforcement matters. A Deming state District or Magistrate case starts with New Mexico Case Lookup. From there you may need eligible re:SearchNM access. Or you may need to request the file from the clerk who holds it. No public municipal docket form or city-citation database appears online. The municipal clerk is the first contact for any city case.
- Read the citation, notice, or case paper for the court name, case or citation number, and appearance date. These details route a Deming search to the right court.
- For a Deming Municipal Court matter, call the municipal clerk at 575-544-9240. The official research does not confirm an online city docket or payment portal.
- For a Deming District or Magistrate case, use New Mexico Case Lookup manually with JavaScript enabled, using the exact case number first when known.
- Use eligible re:SearchNM access for a fuller registered search or eligible documents. Account and case security control the available view.
- For a near-term Deming state-court appearance, check the separate District or Magistrate hearing schedule, then confirm a consequential date with the court clerk.
- Request a specific historical filing, order, register entry, or certified copy from the Deming court holding the case. An IPRA request can be used for an existing public record identified with reasonable particularity.
A statewide lookup that comes back empty does not mean a Deming citation never existed. Historical municipal data is thin in that public index, so treat a blank result as a starting point rather than a final word on the Deming court docket.
Deming Docket Search Limits
No single public docket combines Deming Municipal Court with the state courts. The statewide Case Lookup indexes appellate, district, magistrate, metro, and municipal case information. But it shows no documents. The live portal also gates public access behind JavaScript and a captcha. Its field labels may not load in an ordinary browser. If it stalls, keep the support details. Then call the Deming court directly, or file a focused IPRA request. Do not try to push past the access boundary.
A Deming record can also be absent from public display for lawful reasons. The system is security-tiered. Documents are redacted where required, and sealed or confidential material is excluded. Older records may sit with a clerk until someone files an IPRA request. So a missing Deming result can mean several things. The record may be not publicly shown, not digitized, held in another court system, or outside the available search layer. It does not prove that no case exists.
Deming routing point. The court printed on the citation or case record controls the search path, especially where a traffic or DWI/DUI matter could be municipal or Magistrate.
Deming Municipal Court Basics
Deming Municipal Court sits at 309 S. Gold Street in Deming. Mail goes to PO Box 706, Deming, NM 88030, and the phone number is 575-544-9240. Its official topic list covers code enforcement, animal control, petty misdemeanors, DWI/DUI, and traffic. Remember what this court is: a city-government court, not the general-jurisdiction state trial court. The municipal court system notes that these courts hear no civil cases. They are not courts of record. They also hold no jury trials.
That jurisdiction shapes any Deming docket search. A city citation or ordinance matter belongs with the municipal clerk first. A felony trial never lands on this docket. The same goes for a major civil matter, a domestic-relations case, or a lower-court appeal. City limits do not change that. A Deming Municipal Court docket will not carry them just because the case arose in the city. Court level tells you more than a city name when you are locating a record.
The State Archives courthouse directory lists the Deming courthouse and its setting.
The historic courthouse context is one thing; the current city and state court addresses are what you need for a Deming record request. Keep them straight when you write to a clerk.
Deming State Court Locations
Deming serves as the Luna County seat. The state courts that serve the county sit right there in town. The main trial court is the New Mexico District Court, Sixth Judicial District, Luna County. It is housed at the Luna County Judicial Complex in Deming. Below that sits Deming Magistrate Court, a separate lower state court with its own docket. Each level keeps its own court records. So the municipal clerk cannot pull those files. Knowing which court heard the case saves you a trip to the wrong counter.

The official IPRA case-number guide gives each state court a tag. Deming District is location ID 619. Deming Magistrate is location ID 34. Those IDs tell you which state court a filing belongs to. They will not replace a full case number, though. For an actual case lookup, get the complete number from the court record itself.
Court Dates and Settings in Deming
Deming hearing schedules come out separately for District Court and Magistrate Court. Each official local schedule covers the current day plus six future days. Both warn that details can contain omissions. Use them to check a nearby setting. They are not a complete historical docket for Luna County cases. Deming Municipal Court is different. The court posts no public online calendar. Confirm a municipal court date with the clerk or with the notice or citation itself.
| Start Date | The scheduled date recorded in a state-court hearing view or a served Deming notice. |
|---|---|
| Start Time | The scheduled hearing start; it does not guarantee the exact time a matter is called. |
| Judge | The judicial officer associated with a state-court hearing where displayed. No current Deming municipal judge name was located. |
| Location | The court location in the hearing record. A stable Deming municipal public calendar field set was not located. |
| Hearing Type | The kind of setting. The official re:SearchNM example uses “Plea of True,” which is not a label for every case. |
| Result | The outcome recorded for that hearing, not necessarily the final case disposition. |
The official registered-system example gives reschedule reason and cancel reason their own fields, and either one may be blank. A continuance, reset, or cancellation only changes a hearing date. It is not a final result in a Deming case, so read it as a scheduling note rather than an outcome.
Deming Court Hours Check
Deming's two courts publish different hours. The Sixth District location page lists Deming Magistrate from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The statewide master list disagrees. It gives Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a lunch closure. Deming District Court splits its day. Court runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The clerk office keeps 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and stays open through lunch. The gap is real. Treat it as a reason to confirm, not to guess.
Call the clerk before you drive to a Deming counter. Staff can confirm hours and which office holds your court record. They will not run an open-ended name search over the phone. For an in-person request, bring the case number, court name, filing year, and a clear description of the record you need. Deming posts no courtroom map, public terminal listing, or accessibility details you can rely on in advance. Parking and security screening are likewise unconfirmed.
Note: Confirm Deming court hours and building access with the clerk before any visit.
Traffic Tickets in Deming
A Deming traffic ticket lands in one of two courts: Deming Municipal Court or Luna County Magistrate Court. The citation names the issuing authority. That name sets the docket route. Deming Municipal Court's published topics include traffic and DWI/DUI. The Magistrate Court takes traffic, DWI/DUI, misdemeanors, and felony preliminary hearings under the state structure. Keep two records apart. A traffic case is a court record; a driver record belongs to the state licensing agency.
Deming Municipal Court offers no online portal to pay or contest a citation. Start with the phone number printed on the ticket. Then call the correct Deming clerk. Deadlines, failure-to-appear rules, and deferred-disposition eligibility are local details the clerk can state. Never ignore a citation over an empty search. For the county-wide picture, see the Luna County traffic tickets reference.
Deming Magistrate Traffic Volume
Fiscal year 2020 numbers put Deming Magistrate's traffic in context. The New Mexico Courts Statistical Addendum breaks filings out by county. Traffic was its largest published category for this court. The figures cover July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020, so they are history, not a current Deming docket count. They show why routing a Deming traffic search to the right court matters. They say nothing about any single case outcome.
The criminal table adds counts. Deming Magistrate reported 3,213 cases pending at the start, 2,740 new, 3,161 closed, and 2,817 pending at the end across its criminal categories. Those categories reach beyond traffic. A tally of cases is not a count of convictions.
Where Deming Cases Go
Deming cases split across three courts. Deming Municipal Court handles city matters first. Luna Magistrate Court is the state lower court for traffic, DWI/DUI, misdemeanors, felony preliminary hearings, and civil matters within its jurisdiction. Above it sits New Mexico District Court, Sixth Judicial District, Luna County, the general-jurisdiction trial court for Deming felony trials, major civil matters, domestic relations, juvenile matters, and lower-court appeals. The court named in the record sets your search destination. Search that court, not a guess.
Docket flow: Deming Municipal Court › Luna County Magistrate Court or New Mexico District Court, Sixth Judicial District, Luna County › New Mexico Court of Appeals when an appeal is assigned there.
Appeals move cases upward. The Sixth District fee page lists a $10 municipal appeal fee for taking a municipal judgment into District Court. A Magistrate civil judgment can also be appealed to District Court; the official guide lists a $132 District civil appeal fee. They are routing facts, not current court instructions. Use the Luna County court docket overview for the wider state-court map.
Deming Citation Court Routes
No single docket fits every Deming ticket. The court on the citation decides the path. City cases follow the municipal route. State cases go to Magistrate, and a District case means the matter reached the higher court. The comparison keeps those routes separate and makes no claim about online payment or hearings beyond what the courts themselves state.
| Deming Municipal Court | Deming Magistrate Court | District Court in Deming |
|---|---|---|
| City ordinance, petty-misdemeanor, traffic, DWI/DUI, animal-control, and code-enforcement matters. | State traffic, DWI/DUI, misdemeanors, felony preliminary hearings, and limited civil matters. | Felony trials, major civil matters, domestic relations, juvenile cases, and lower-court appeals. |
| Call 575-544-9240 for the city clerk's current record path. | Call 575-546-9321 for Magistrate records and settings. | Call 575-546-9611, extension 0, for District clerk contact. |
| No complete current city citation database was located. | State case lookup begins with public Case Lookup and can use eligible registered access. | State case lookup begins with public Case Lookup and can use eligible registered access. |
Deming's separate routes exist for a reason. They keep a city record from being mistaken for a state case, or a lower-court event from being mistaken for a District trial record.
Deming Court Record Access Rules
A Deming court docket can be public while its documents stay offline. Start a city-file request with Deming Municipal Court. Route a state-file request to the Magistrate or District clerk that maintains the case. State the court, case number, filing year, date range, and the exact record you want. That holds whether you visit or write. One limit stands. A public docket index does not override a seal, a confidentiality rule, a redaction, or a protected identifier.
Key Rules:
NMSA 14-2-8 and IPRA procedure require a written request to identify existing records with reasonable particularity; no reason for the request is required.
Rule 1-079 NMRA covers public court records, sealing, and protected identifiers in dockets, documents, exhibits, and transcripts.
New Mexico's Case Access Policy uses redacted, security-tiered online access and excludes sealed or confidential material.
Timing rules come from the Court of Appeals IPRA summary. Inspection happens immediately or as soon as practicable. In no case does it run past fifteen days. When a record cannot be produced within three business days, you receive a written explanation. Ask the relevant Deming court first, not the Administrative Office of the Courts.
Deming Courthouse History
Luna County was carved out in 1901. Deming became its seat. Court work first happened in rented offices around town. The District Court even sat at the Clark Opera House for a time. The landmark 1910 Luna County Courthouse grew out of that era. But history is one thing and live cases another. For a current court docket, go to the Luna County Judicial Complex at 855 S. Platinum Avenue. Skip the old courthouse. Luna County's local history page tells more of that courthouse story.
Knowing Deming's court history keeps the old courthouse apart from the offices that hold records today. District, Magistrate, and municipal clerks now handle current dockets in their own locations.
